Services
The Writer's
Assistant offers three levels of typesetting and book design:
Interior Layout
Our designer will work with the
client to select fonts and create a basic book design that will
compliment the book's subject matter. Prior to beginning the
interior layout process, your electronic file will be cleaned to
remove all extra spaces, tabs, and breaks. Then it will be
placed into the layout document and the designer will check each
page for readability, removing any gaps, bad breaks, or other
typographic errors that can ruin your book’s appearance. The
file will be sent to you as a PDF (Portable Document Format). We
will send you a final PDF for approval, and will create a
high-resolution file for your printer. If you wish, we’ll even
e-mail or upload the file directly to your printer.
The fees are as follows:
- Interior layout fee is $2.50
per typeset page.
- Our fee does not include
blank pages.
- Our price includes one round
of corrections (up to two dozen corrections). More than two
dozen changes will incur a $65 fee.
- The fee for charts, tables,
illustration/artwork and photograph insertions is $1.00 per
image.
- Turnaround: Typically 72
hours to one week for the first draft.

Industry Standard Book Formatting
Could you manuscript benefit from
professional formatting? No one can say with certainty how many
great stories and novels are passed over by publishers simply
because the manuscript was poorly formatted. Oftentimes, a
nicely organized and clean manuscript will be better received.
As a special service of The
Writer's Assistant, we will take your finished electronic
manuscript and convert it to a “standard manuscript” format for
submission to publishers and agents. We will ensure that your
font, character style, line spacing, paragraph style, pages
numbers, margins, and layout all meet an editor’s expectations.
This does not guarantee that your book or short story will be
sold, of course, but a well-formatted manuscript is easier to
read and has a better chance of rising above the slush pile than
one that looks unprofessional.
Manuscript formatting fees are as
follows:
- $100.00 up
to 125 pages
- $125.00
between 126 and 225 pages
- $150.00
between 226 and 325 pages
- $200.00
over 325 pages

Typing Services
We are
experienced in typing novels, scripts/screenplays, academic
theses, articles for publication, journals, diaries, letters,
resumes, and novels. We accept handwritten or typewritten
manuscripts, disks, e-mail attachments, PDF, Web upload and
faxes. We do data entry as well. For data entry, we work
primarily in Microsoft Word and Excel but we can accept and
deliver many other formats, including publishing to PDF.
The fee for
typing is $2.50 per page.
